EDF forecasts an increase in electricity demand of 150 TWh by 2035. Electricity consumption would therefore rise from 450 TWh in 2023 to 600 TWh in 2035. The increase in electricity consumption would be divided between transport (70 TWh), industry (60 TWh) and data centres (20 TWh). Consumption by buildings is expected to remain at its current level, with increased penetration of electric heating offset by improvements in the energy efficiency of buildings. France should have no difficulty in covering the additional demand, thanks to the development of new production facilities and the fall in exports.
