EDF confirms its nuclear production targets for 2025 and 2026
EDF believes that the two microcracks discovered on one of the reactors at the Civaux power plant during a scheduled maintenance shutdown will have no impact on the availability of the nuclear fleet in 2025 and 2026. According to EDF, the Civaux 2 case remains an isolated incident. Of the sixteen reactors susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (those in the ‘1300 MW’ and N4 categories), nine have undergone an inspection of the secondary circuit piping welds, with some sections of piping being replaced as a precautionary measure. Reactor number 2 at the Civaux power plant is expected to restart by 30 July at the latest, 15 days after the initial restart date. While the causes of the stress corrosion remain a mystery, EDF has ruled out any link between the corrosion and the modulation of the nuclear fleet.
