CRE makes recommendations for the development of small modular reactors
In a report published a few days ago, the French Energy Commission (CRE) makes recommendations for the development of small modular reactors in France. The CRE notes that Europe and France are lagging behind the United States, China and Russia in the development of SMRs. It advises the public authorities to allocate more public money to the sector, as the development risks are deterring private investors. In France, the CRE considers that SMRs have a special role to play in the production of heat for district heating networks or in industry at temperatures of less than 300 degrees. In the most advanced countries, the first SMRs should be on the market as early as 2030.
