COP 30 failed to make any progress in the fight against climate change
The agreement negotiated in Belém did not raise the international community's overall level of ambition in the fight against climate change. The text remains silent on the phasing out of fossil fuels. However, the existence of an agreement, however modest, is a success in itself, as the absence of an agreement would have marked the end of multilateralism in the field of climate change. In terms of financing, the agreement sets out a threefold increase in funding for climate change adaptation by 2035, without however explaining how this will be achieved. The fight against deforestation has also suffered from the lack of consensus. The tropical forest fund will only be endowed with 5 billion dollars, far from the 125 billion envisaged by Brazil.
