The construction costs for the Hinkley Point and Sizewell nuclear power plant projects now total £46 billion. The French Minister for Energy wants the British government to share the increased costs to avoid EDF having to bear the entire burden. EDF has indicated that the Hinkley Point plant may not come online until 2031, six years later than the initial commissioning date. The French government is calling for comprehensive financing to cover both projects, while the green light for the Sizewell project could be given in June.
