The Czech competition authority has suspended the agreement signed between the electricity company Cez and the South Korean group KHPN for the construction of two nuclear reactors at the Dukowany site. KHPN had won the contract ahead of EDF and Westinghouse. EDF and Westinghouse have appealed to the European Commission and the Czech competition authority, challenging the award decision. The competition authority will now examine the applications from EDF and Westinghouse. Cez still hopes to finalise the agreement with KHPN within the next six months and to start construction in 2029, with commissioning scheduled for 2036.
