Companies invest in microgrids to avoid power cuts
900 MW of microgrid capacity (an interconnected set of photovoltaic installations, batteries and thermal generators designed to supply power locally to a consumer or group of consumers located in the same neighbourhood) was installed in the United States last year. Although still modest, this figure is rising significantly, reflecting the interest shown by industrial and service companies in local solutions that can improve security of supply. The expected rise in demand for electricity at a time when the quality of the grids is deemed inadequate explains the interest shown by American businesses in microgrids.
