Commission extends gas storage rules by two years

The European Commission has extended the gas storage rules until the end of 2027. The regulation, which was adopted in 2022 and expired on 31 December 2025, sets a mandatory target of filling gas stocks to 90% by 1 November, as well as a series of intermediate targets. However, the Commission stresses that the intermediate targets are indicative and that it is up to the Member States to optimise the filling trajectory according to the local context.
