Coal consumption is expected to decline after reaching a record high in 2025.

Global coal consumption is expected to reach 8.85 billion tonnes in 2025, according to the International Energy Agency. While coal consumption in India has fallen due to an early monsoon, coal consumption in the United States has increased by 8%, supported by high natural gas prices, and fallen in Europe by 2%, a significantly smaller decline than last year. Coal consumption in China remained stable at 4.95 billion tonnes, thanks to the significant growth of solar photovoltaics. The IEA estimates that coal production should begin to decline next year and return to its 2021 level by 2030.
