Chinese natural gas imports up 15% in April

Chinese imports of natural gas rose by 15% between April 2023 and April 2024, reaching 14 billion cubic metres. The increase concerns both pipeline and LNG imports. Record heat throughout the country and low water levels have led to an increase in demand for electricity and greater use of gas-fired power stations. Coal imports also increased.
