Carbon removal from the atmosphere could be integrated into the carbon market

The European Commission wants to promote technologies for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (carbon dioxide removal). To do this, the Commission is considering integrating CDR into the European emissions trading system. This integration requires setting caps on the total volume of CDR allowed in the system each year. Some experts argue that only technologies that enable permanent CO2 removal should have access to the carbon market.
