The operating life of the Berznau nuclear power plant (two 365 MW reactors), initially set at sixty years, could be extended. The number of years of the extension has not been specified. The plant, located in the Zurich region, is operated by Axpo. Electricity consumption in Switzerland amounted to 66.7 TWh in 2023. This could rise to 80 to 90 TWh by 2050. Switzerland has two other nuclear power plants in operation: Gösgen (1000 MW) and Leibstadt (1200 MW). The Mühleberg plant was shut down for good in 2019.
