Aviation sector CO2 emissions reach a record level in Europe
Emissions from the aviation sector reached a record in 2025 with 195 million tonnes emitted by flights departing from Europe. Emissions increased by 2% compared with 2019 and by 30% compared with 2005. European aviation represents 23% of global emissions, versus 25% for North America and 31% for Asia. Europe is the only region that has exceeded pre‑pandemic emission levels. This contrasts with road and maritime transport, which have reduced emissions since 2019.
