ArcelorMittal to invest €1.2 billion in the Dunkirk site

ArcelorMittal has confirmed its intention to invest €1.2 billion in the Dunkirk site. The group will build an electric arc furnace to replace the site's blast furnaces. However, the formal investment decision will only be taken once the details of the measures to protect European steel that the European Commission has undertaken to take are known. The measures envisaged are aimed at limiting steel imports into Europe to 15% and adapting the carbon adjustment mechanism at borders. The construction of the electric arc furnace is the first stage in the decarbonisation plan for the Dunkirk site, which also includes the construction of a direct iron ore reduction plant.
